In 2003, our Dubbo Base formed a mutually beneficial alliance with the University of Sydney's School of Rural Health and the Greater Western Area Health Service (GWAHS). We are currently recruiting two doctors and have one in place to:
- provide clinical training to undergraduate and postgraduate medical students from the University
- work in the Emergency Department at Dubbo Hospital
- work with the RFDS team at the Dubbo Base
- develop a clinical skills program for third and fourth year students, GPs, registrars and Nursing Staff
- provide invaluable hands on experience (and insight into the difficulties of managing patients in rural and remote settings) to students accompanying them on aeromedical retrievals
To further strengthen our alliance with the University, the RFDS also has a seat on their steering committee which enables us to have input into curriculum development.
